JoAnna Littau, arrived in Anchorage AK in 1977 from CA and AZ, became licensed in 1982 after working in hospitality during the 1970’s and early 80’s. Had 3 fabulous years and then the market crashed, we laughed when we heard that down in Texas they were selling condos for $ .10 on the dollar until it hit us in 1988 when we sold them for as low as $9,000 in Independence Park. It was such tough going that I couldn’t even afford to buy at that price! I worked as an inspector and price adjustor for MGIC and performed over 800 inspections of foreclosed properties in the Anchorage bowl. I was the go-to person for pricing. The storm blew over by 1994 and we were on the rebound. I worked with Totem Realty for over 20 years and was in the Top Ten many times. I worked with both condos and single family, excelling in counseling first-time buyers. I interviewed with Alaska Housing Finance giving their Home Buyer’s classes but they wanted me to give up my license! Horror.
I began attending the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1990 and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor’s of Business in Marketing and a Minor in Sociology. I came close to becoming an appraiser however I just didn’t make that leap. I more enjoy demographics and consumer behavior, especially viewed through the lens of real estate. I am a remodeling junkie and my personal best is 4 visits in one day to Home Depot. I’m rebuilding Fairview little by little.
I’m working more often now on investment properties, it seems to suit my interest more these days-maturing along with my peers I guess.
